This is Congressman Alan Grayson asking agent Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on $550B of loans to foreigners (or ‘central liquidity swaps’ in agent Reserve-ese’). Which business institutions conventional this money? Bernanke’s answer: I don’t know. As the FRS was disposition this money, the note accumulated by 30% in value. Grayson asks, was this a coincidence? Bernanke’s answer: yes.

BTW, I have been to Jekyll Island. It’s a creepy place if you wander around. It was a playground for the rich elite of the time to socialize with each other. When I was there (1995) it was a resort for company meetings, weddings, and such. They played croquet out front in funny white uniforms. I suppose they were re-enacting how the game was played back way back when.

This is huge, not because of the information but because of the “in your face” disrespect that Grayson shows Bernanke. Grayson actually BELIEVES that he, Grayson, has the right and the ABILITY to ridicule the most powerful government official in the US, and a Princeton professor at that. No doubt Bernanke has colleagues who believe the intellectual difference between Bernanke and Grayson is greater than that between Grayson and an animal. Grayson doesn’t care!

If we are going to criticize federal reserve, let’s do it in a reasonable fashion. Alan Grayson is wrong about this one. Federal reserve did a swap. It does not mean that federal reserve printed out 500 billion dollars out of thin air and lended it to foreigners. Also, Bernanke did nothing wrong. He does not have to know who the central bank is lending its money to.

it’s not flooded into the market. It was lent to the european central banks which upon repayment the united states earns interest. It’s a failed argument by grayson because billions of dollars are being lent to businesses in the United States small businesses are just scared shitless about future tax hikes and health care reform.

I don’t think Grayson or most people applauding him understand that the United States if it wants to keep the dollar from becoming an obsolete currency in Europe has to lend money to these central banks in order for them to have liquidity. Grayson doesn’t understand global lending on the same level Bernanke does. To someone that even knows a bit about economics it’s clear Grayson makes a fool of himself and Bernanke is suffering him.

Grayson’s argument here about ‘no one conceiving in 1913 that the government/anyone in america would give out half a trillion dollars’, is a bit misleading.
Because the Fed has printed such an ungodly amount of money, $500 billion today would only be worth about $15 billion back then. So his question SHOULD be “Do you think anyone back then could ever conceive of any american handing out $15 billion to a foreign entity?”…
… which i totally agree with Grayson on!

He should’ve quoted Article 1 Section 10 – No state shall… make anything but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts”
We aren’t even supposed to be using paper BACKED by gold and silver. Simply following this would IMMEDIATELY destroy the fed.
